Research and development

The facility is actively involved in a number of applied research contracts funded by organisations such as the TSB (Technology Strategy Board). In addition, the facility provides test and evaluation services as a subcontract to the composites research contracts of Manchester and other Universities.

The NCCEF operates from the North West Composites Centre on the University of Manchester Engineering campus and accommodates the latest test and processing equipment.

1,600 square metres of laboratory, sample preparation and office space are dedicated to the activities of the NCCEF, including:
 

  • Instron mechanical testing laboratory
  • Processing laboratory
  • Ply cutting room
  • Dedicated lay up room
  • Test sample preparation workshop
  • Inspection and measurement lab
  • Ballistics laboratory
  • Secure sample and data storage area
  • 50m2 seminar room with full AV support
